estudying:

happy new year everyone! it’s estudying (previously: doitforthea). here are some tips and tricks to achieving academic success for this new year.

set goals

• establish high standards and expectations that you can work hard towards
  
• ask yourself why you want to reach this goal? how will it make you feel? what will it accomplish? ex: getting a high gpa during undergrad will look impressive when applying to grad school
• break your goals down into smaller steps so that they can be more manageable. remember the journey of 1000 miles starts with one step! 
• write down your goals! writing down your goals will increase your chances of actually doing them. describe your goal in detail. don’t miss a single detail. be really in depth about what YOU want to accomplish this year.

prioritize & establish good time management skills

• not everything needs to be done in one night.try to come up with a balanced schedule and learn to do the most important things first
• manage your time wisely. ask yourself, how am i working towards my goal today? what steps have i accomplished so far? what steps can i do now?
• carry a journal around and keep track of what you do. those 2 hours you spent on youtube watching a billion contouring & highlighting tutorials could be spent studying for your literature test or org chem quiz. this journal will show you where all your time is going and whether they are productive or not.
• try to spend at least 45-50% of your time dedicated towards doing something productive to reach your academic goal
• block any distractions that will prevent you from staying focused and prioritizing. phone is buzzing from your whatsapp group chat? IGNORE IT.
• realize that sometimes things will not work out as planned. it’s alright. adjust your schedule and make up for it in the next few days.
• try to dedicated 25-35 minutes in scheduling your day.

develop grit

• focus on what could go right instead of what could go wrong
• decide to do something. tell everyone you’re doing it and go do it.
• believe in your ability to do something and work hard for it. strive to be the best at it. do not give up when things become “difficult” or “hard”
• stop comparing your grades to your friends, your siblings, and etc. you are your own person.
• develop self-control. if you know that what you are doing is unproductive then stop. have the strength to keep going.
• have a positive mindset. you are growing and blossoming into who you really are. you will reach your academic goals. you have the potential.

studying

• do you have terrible memory and struggle studying?
• need a masterpost of studying hacks?
• i still have no clue!! i need more study hacks!!!
• how do i study for math? how do i improve my math mark?
• i need more help with math?!!
• how do i take study notes?

motivational words from me

• this isn’t just any year this is YOUR year
• i believe in you, but most importantly you must believe in yourself
• the universe has so much in store for you. 2016 won’t be like 2015 or 2014. you have the power to change for the better.
• you are smart. you are willing to work hard. you won’t give up this year.
• your goals are attainable
• good grades are coming your way
• asking for help does not make you weak. if you don’t understand something dw.
• dream it, believe it, plan it, execute it, love it, live it, and achieve it.
